Description:
Schedule:
Classes are 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM from Monday to Thursday and from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday for a total of 25 hours per week.

Course Options:
There are 7 Levels of Instruction. Successful completion of Level 7 (sometimes Level 6) meets the English Language Proficiency criteria at Grande Prairie Regional College. Students need a 550 (paper-based) TOEFL score or completion of Level 6 or 7 to enter university or college programs.

Start Dates: (Monthly Intakes)
The four-week Intensive English Language program is offered 12 times a year for Beginner to Advanced University Preparation. For more information about the starting dates for intakes, please contact the International Education and English Language Centre.

Arrival:
Students will be given a written placement test before the start of the program to ensure they will be placed in the appropriate level.

Students can use either WestJet or Air Canada to get from Vancouver, Edmonton or Calgary to Grande Prairie. Flying time is approximately 1 to 3 hours. (Airport pick up is a free service for students staying with homestays)

13. Grande Prairie is near the Rocky Mountains. The Rockies are a 2-hour drive from Grande Prairie. Jasper National Park is a 4-hour drive from Grande Prairie. Students have the opportunity to partake in world class skiing in Jasper.
14. Excellent sports facilities in Grande Prairie. There are arenas, swimming pool, gymnasiums, golf courses, ski hill, etc. Close to many of these recreational areas.
15. Impressive view of the Northern Lights in winter.
16. Canada enjoys the number one standard of living in the world (as stated by United Nations for the past two years)

English Language Centre

Tuition Fee: CAD 800.00 Per Month

*(For example: if a student wishes to study for a 1 month period the fee is CAD 800, for a six month period it will be CAD 800.00 x 6= CAD 4,800.00 or twelve months it will be CAD 9,600.00.) Students may continue studying until they have reached the English level they desire.

Other Costs:

Administration fee - CAD 150.00
1. Tuition deposit (applied to 1st month tuition) - CAD 100.00
Airport/bus pick-up fee - FREE
Homestay set-up fee - CAD 175.00
Homestay (one month rent) - CAD 600.00

*Note: Fees do not include books.

Health Insurance:
Students who do not have a Student Authorization for a one year period or more are not eligible for low cost Alberta health Insurance and must purchase Health Insurance before departing for Canada.

Visas:
Students wishing to study for a period longer than 90 days must obtain a Student Authorization from a Canadian Embassy or Consulate.

Application and payment procedures:
1. You send your application for Admission to the English Language Centre by mail, fax or Apply Online.
2. You send us a tuition deposit/administration fee of USD 250.00 by credit card, bank draft, money order or check payable to Grande Prairie Regional College.
3. We notify you of your admissibility by mail or fax. You receive your official Letter of Admission by mail.
4. You present the official Letter of Admission to the Canadian authorities in your country to obtain your Student Authorization.
5. If your Student Authorization is denied, forward us a copy of the letter from the Canadian Immigration authorities and we will refund USD 100.00, otherwise the tuition deposit is non-refundable.
6. You pay your remaining fees before your arrival the same as above payments.
7. If you want a homestay, you send the homestay set up fee (USD 150.00) plus fee of USD 600.00 one month homestay fee.   
8. If you cancel your enrollment 30 days prior to your arrival, you will receive a refund of the USD 600 homestay fee.

English Language Centre accommodations

Homestay:
Homestay is an excellent opportunity for you to learn the language and the culture of Canada. Grande Prairie is a safe and friendly city where Canadians will welcome you into their homes. However, you must be aware that Canada is a multi-cultural country with families from around the world. Your host family may be originally from North America, Europe, the Philippines, China, India, South America or other parts of the World.

Canadian families are not all the same. Your host family may be a family with or without children, an older couple, a single parent family or even a single person.

College residence:
Grande Prairie Regional College Housing is within a two-minute walk of the College and provides a scenic view of Bear Creek Reservoir, natural parkland and trails. It offers a special, independent lifestyle in 369 fully-furnished, self-contained bachelor and shared apartments. Applications are accepted any time after January 1 for the following fall/winter term.

English as a Second Language

Highlights: The campus of GPRC is located in Grande Prairie, a growing city serving a region of 350,000 people. GPRC is situated on urban parkland, with opportunities to walk, cycle, canoe, and kayak, all within minutes of facilities for shopping and other recreation. The college houses a concert theatre and a double gymnasium. A fully equipped weight room provides students with opportunity to keep physically fit. Up-to-date computer hardware and software are available for student use in laboratories and in the extensive multimedia resources of the college library.
