Highlights:
API students in Mexico will study Spanish language and Mexican culture in the historic city of Oaxaca. This setting will expose students to archeological sites, tropical landscapes, and a rich indigenous culture. Experiential/service learning opportunities are also available. The Southern State of Oaxaca is one of the most enticing areas of Mexico with more varied landscapes and greater biodiversity than any other Mexican state. Mountain ranges, lakes and a beautiful coastline on the Pacific Ocean are only the beginnings of the intrigue of Oaxaca. In addition to the diversity of the landscape, Oaxaca is also home to approximately 3.4 million people, including 17 indigenous cultures, each with its own language. Oaxaca is considered to be a capital of modern Mexican art, and is also the home of some of the oldest pre-hispanic architecture, artwork, frescos and carvings. From the pre-Hispanic hilltop city of Monte Alban to the Mixtec buildings at Mitla, to La Universidad Regional del Sureste (URSE), ancient history and contemporary life vibrantly co-exist here.
