English Language Programs (IELTS, TOEIC, Cambridge) and Internships

  Australia
  • Brisbane:
  • Brisbane

Term: Throughout the year

Description: Shafston is located in the heart of Brisbane, on the banks of the beautiful Brisbane River. This location gives our students a true campus environment in which to study and take part in campus life. Students are able to enjoy the benefits of being less than seven minutes away by public transport from the very centre of the Brisbane central business district and only 5 minutes by public transport from Southbank, Fortitude Valley and China Town. Shafston students come from around Australia and across the globe to enjoy one of the most diverse student populations in the country.

The Shafston educational precinct is home to Shafston International College, Shafston Institute of Technology, and Shafston Nursing.

Shafston International College offers a range of Academic and General English programs including IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, Cambridge exam preparation, Business English, and High School Preparation courses.

Shafston Institute of Technology offers a variety of higher education and vocational diploma programs. Higher education diplomas are offered in International Business, Human Behavior, Education, and Legal Studies. The only vocational diploma is offered in nursing, which leads to a career in nursing or further university studies.

Shafston offers students a choice of living in on-campus apartments or homestay accommodation. Shafston University Mansions consist of 170 individual apartments designed for the needs and budget of Australian and international students. Students can enjoy single, double or triple room accommodation each with their own bathroom and kitchen. Each apartment is fully furnished. Living with an Australian family can also be a wonderful experience. Students can experience Australian food and lifestyle in a friendly and caring family environment. All families are located within a convenient distance of the campus.

The Shafston Activities and Travel Centre organises a range of social, sporting and tourist activities many times throughout the week and on weekends, every week of the year. These activities encourage interaction and build friendships between our students.

The Shafston Job Club gives students the opportunity to earn money and we actively work with students through the process of seeking employment; helping them to find job ads, write resumes, make phone calls and going to interviews with them. Through our one-on-one interview process we first find out what students want and need, then we work toward achieving it.

Make the choice for Shafston - a decision that will set you on the right track for life.

Internships

Shafston's Job Club provides an ideal opportunity to gain international experience in any field of study. Shafston supports you in your professional growth and helps you to prepare for your future by arranging an internship with a selected organization. Shafston's Internship Programme promotes English communication in a working environment while also being a valuable addition to student's resume.

As an intern you can be placed in your desired industry for periods of 4 weeks or 12 weeks.

This work can be done after class hours during your study period or after the completion of your English course.

Working Holiday Visa is a 12-month visa, which permits the holder to work (paid or unpaid) for any one employer for up to three months. This means that working holiday visa holders can do any kind of work of a temporary or casual nature for more than three months but have to change companies every three months. Working holiday visa holders can also study for a maximum of three months.

As a student visa holder you are also entitled to work in paid or unpaid positions. Student visas are not automatically granted with work rights so students will need to apply for that after having commenced your course in Australia. A student visa allows you to work for up to 20 hours a week while the course you are studying is in session. However, you can work for longer periods during your holidays.

A tourist visa entitles the holder to study and do an internship/work experience in general for less than three months. The holder cannot do any paid work but may be entitled to take on an internship providing the nature of the internship is merely of a voluntary nature.

Please note that Australia has reciprocal Working Holiday maker arrangements with certain countries.

For general visa questions please contact Shafston's Registrar. For specific questions please contact DIMIA (The Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs)
