DAAD offers grants to graduate students at North American universities to attend 8-week intensive language courses at leading institutes in Germany. Extensive descriptions of the institutes, their teaching philosophies, course content, as well as course dates are available on the website of each institute: * Goethe-Institut * S + W speak + write * did deutsch-institut * Carl-Duisberg-Centren * InterDaF Leipzig Eligibility Requirements Scholarships are awarded to students currently enrolled full-time in a graduate program in all fields of study except English, German or any modern languages or literatures. Applicants will be assessed on the basis of their academic record and statements of projected academic and professional future. As a rule, applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the US or Canada. Foreign nationals may be eligible if they have been full-time graduate students at a US or Canadian university for at least one academic year at the time of application. Applicants must have completed three semesters of college German or have achieved an equivalent level of language proficiency. Applicants who have received a DAAD summer language grant in the past three years are not eligible to apply. Requirements must be met by the application deadline.
Highlights:
Terms of Award DAAD will consider individual placement preferences, but grantees are requested to accept DAAD's final decision as to time and place. The scholarship of approximately ¬1,300 includes tuition, accommodations (arranged by the host institute) and a cash allowance for meals and incidental expenses in full or in part, depending on the choice of location and accommodations. DAAD will provide health and accident insurance as well as a travel subsidy of ¬210. Scholarship recipients are expected to devote their full attention to the course and may not concurrently undertake individual research. A written report is requested within four weeks of the end of the course.
