Donostia-San Sebastian has the highest number of Michelin Stars per square meter of the planet, although the entire Basque Country offers any amount of opportunities to delight the palate, whether in the big restaurants or in the more modest establishments.

The Basque Country was already internationally famous for its delicious traditional cuisine when a group of new chefs decided to take a number of these dishes and renew them on the basis of their imagination. This movement, which was soon to become known as Basque nouvelle cuisine, was established in the mid-70 by a series of young chefs whose point of reference was the French cookery of the same name.

Today, those young chefs are maestros of renowned prestige, whose creativity falls under the title of so-called author cuisine. Despite their high social standing, the top restaurants still lead a surprisingly practical life. Its not unusual to see any of these figures of world wide renown in the gastronomic field doing their own shopping at the market, passing on some of their recipes in the media or rubbing elbows at the cookery schools with the new generations or restaurants, with an end to ensuring the continuity of this delicious new gastronomy San Sebastian is the heart of famous Spanish culinary.

This 1 week course gives you the chance to learn about the internationally renowned Basque cuisine. At the end of each class you will get to try the dishes along with some wine. The cooking classes are Monday to Friday from 16:30 to 20:30 in groups of 10-15 students. The starting dates are July 4, 11, 18, 25 and August 1, 8, and 22. Price: 240 per week.

Highlights: Spain is a country of contrasts. A historic European country with bustling cities, a beautiful country with snow capped mountains and little villages, Salsa dancing and tapas, and white sanded beaches that go on forever!

San Sebastian is in the north of Spain, on the Atlantic coast (the best location for surf!), is near to the Pyrenees for skiing and side trips to France. It is in the Basque area of Spain, where the people are furiously patriotic.

San Sebastian is an unusually sophisticated city wrapped around one of the best urban beaches in the world, La Concha (the shell)! San Sebastian is indeed a beautiful city. It is famous for its beaches, its beach breaks, and for its cuisine! Every corner of Spain champions its culinary identity, but San Sebastian is in a league of its own.

Find out why San Sebastian is the perfect city for you. We are proud to tell you of a city unparalleled for immersing yourself in Spanish, culture, fun and festivity.

Few cities can offer so many alternatives in one single area: marvelous scenery, beaches, mountains, folklore, remarkable customs and traditions, important musical and cinematic events Jazz Festival, Film Festival, Music Fortnight as well as countless parties, Semana Grande, Carnival, Caldereros (Tinkers festival), San Sebastian's Day & as well as it offers you internationally recognized cuisine.

Spain is a centre for surfing in mainland Europe. Surfers from all around the world test the waves, especially in the Pais Vasco area where San Sebastian lies. There are three main beach breaks at San Sebastian. Playa La Conche is the famous city beach that San Sebastian surrounds. Its a great surf spot for beginners. It's a right hand beach break that is ideal in a southerly with a North West swell. You are right in the middle of the city... only a few minutes from the school. Playa Ondaratte is a left hand beach break, with nice waves for beginners to learn on. Playa La Gross is a regional classic not to miss. Its also a beach break, but from various directions. A great surf spot for beginners and intermediate surfers! It has a great long board wave, totally unpredictable day to day conditions. Extreme swell can come late September early October when sea is still warm. A nice chill out surfing spot 20 minutes away are three more beach breaks at Zaraurz and... Less than an hour away is the famous point break of Mandaka. It is a world class spot, and considered (when its on) the best surfing spot in Europe... But that's another story!
