Santander is a permanently changing modern city that has known how to adapt to the new times. A city which, day to day, is open to the sea with renewed spirit and which, historically, is open to the visitor. From the Bay of Santander, considered one of the most beautiful in the world, the landscape is impressive. From next to the Palacete del Embarcadero (small palace by the quay), boats cross the Bay continuously, to arrive at the beaches of El Puntal (The Headlands) and Somo, allowing you to contemplate the spectacular view of Santander. Continuing the walk along the quay, you reach El Paseo de Pereda (the Pereda Walk), the most emblematic boulevard in the city; it has countless buildings of great architectural beauty. Located in front of the bay of Santander, we find the Palacio de Festivales de Cantabria (Festival Palace of Cantabria). Every summer this building, designed by the architect Sáenz de Oiza, welcomes some of the most important domestic cultural shows, the International Festival of Santander. The cultural activity of the city finds an ideal complement in the Prehistoric and Maritime museums. The architectural group integrated by the menéndez Pelayo Library and Museum and the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts of Santander are also really outstanding. Among the summer festivals we can mention "The Wave Baths". They remind us the onset of the sunny vacations by the beach from 1847. During this time, Santander acquires new vitality and it presents a wide programme of sports, cultural and festival activities. When July arrives, the Wave Baths, Apostle Santiago's festivity and the affluence of visitors fill the city with music and fireworks. It is in this month when the main bullfighting figures come to Santander, to participate in the notorious "Fair of the North".
