Learning Spanish in the Dominican Republic
Dominican Republic
Dates: every Monday; beginners groups every second Monday
Description:
The Instituto Intercultural del Caribe (IIC), founded in 1994, is one of the largest and most reputable institutes offering Spanish classes to foreigners in the Dominican Republic. With a school in the capital Santo Domingo and one in Sosua at the north coast of the country, IIC offers its students the great opportunity to explore this beautiful island and its splendid diversity. * Sosua, on the one hand, is an ideal place for students interested in combining their Spanish studies with sports and leisure time activities. It offers swimming, surfing, scuba diving and much more. The institute is surrounded by a spacious garden with lush subtropical vegetation, only a 5 minute walk from the beautiful Sosua Beach. Only 15 minutes away from Sosua is surfer's paradise Cabarete, one of the best wind and kite surfing spots in the world. * Santo Domingo, the oldest city in the New World, offers, on the other hand, a culturally rich experience for those ready to explore a fascinating Caribbean metropolis with its ancient and historical sites, as well as the many traditional and original dancing spots and night life activities. The schools are open all year round. At both places group courses as well as private lessons are available, also in combination with different accommodation options e.g. in students' residence or home stay. IIC Spanish teachers are native speakers with academic background and have long-year experience in teaching Spanish as a foreign language. 2-City-Program: Students can also divide their Spanish course between both schools. This is the perfect program for those who like to see a lot in little time. At both places, IIC offers its students a wide range of activities and excursions to meet country and people. Furthermore, IIC has designed various special programs: - Spanish & Surfing (wind- or kite surfing combined with Spanish classes) and - Spanish & Scuba Diving, both in Sosua/Cabarete, - Spanish & Dancing (Spanish and dance lessons in Santo Domingo), - Travelling Classroom for closed groups (learning Spanish while travelling around the country). The Institute also offers preparation courses for the DELE exam. Starting dates for the DELE group courses in 2009 are: 20 April and 19 October. DELE (Diplomas de EspaƱol como Lengua Extranjera) is the official, internationally recognized qualification certifying students knowledge of Spanish as a foreign language. See the program description here on goabroad.
