Highlights:
Verbano-Cusio-Ossola is an area between two lakes, Maggiore and Orta and surrounded by mountains. It is a tourist centre, above all during spring and summer. The Cusio environment has the kind of landscape with the basic elements that make it different from other lake areas. Lake Orta is a pre-alpine lake that transgressively flows northwards, looking towards the mountains rather than the plain. In the middle of it there is a little island called S.Giulio Island. Omegna, one of the places that crowned Lake Orta and where I live, is a small town located by the lakeside. It is an important industrial centre with well-equipped sports and bathing facilities. It is served by buses, trains and close to several shopping centres. It is a quiet and safe place. Cusio and Verbano are divided by the perfect lakeside mountain called Mottarone (from its top you can see Milano). They boast excellent hotels and camping sites. The Verbano area has its centre in Verbania and is situated by the lakeside Maggiore that has three isles. It is just one hour by car from Switzerland (Italian canton). The Ossola area, with its centre in Domodossola, is mainly mountainous where people go to ski during winter. Its Sempione Pass divides Italy from Switzerland. The house, just 200 metres from the lakeside Orta, has 3 bedrooms, a kitchen and a kitchenette, 3 bathrooms and two showers, a lounge room with piano, Hi Fi, TV and cable TV, two dining rooms (one with a fire place). The student's room is bright with a terrace and view on the little garden where we are used to having lunch and dinner during summer. It is separated by the main house. The bedroom is on the top floor and has three single beds, one wardrobe, a desk with chair. Next to it there is the bathroom with a bath and a shower. On the ground floor there is a large study room with TV, radio and the toilet. I live in the house with my parents. They are both retired, friendly, funny and happy to welcome you as part of the family. Excursions and Local Attractions Cusio area (lake Orta): Orta S.Giulio with its characteristic square; the Palazzotto (1582); the Sacro Monte with 20 chapels dedicated to the life of St. Francis of Assisi; S.Giulio Island with its Romanesque Basilica frescoes and Oire-stone ambo; Madonna del Sasso Sanctuary (1748) with its beautiful panorama; the panoramic roads Alzo, Pella, Cesara, Nonio going toward the Valstrona to Campello Monti; Mottarone. Verbano area (lake Maggiore): Pallanza and Intra, the main centres; Bella, Pescatori and Madre Isles; Villa Pallavicino, the zoo by the lakeside; Villa Taranto (from March to October), famous for its flowers and gardens coming from every part of the Europe; Ossola area: Domodossola; Macugnaga, a skiing centre.
