Description: REAL Gap is a leading volunteer abroad organization, also offering programs including paid work, learning a language, teaching English, round the world, adventure and sports, from 2 weeks to 2 years.

All our travel advisors have been there and done it. They love talking about their experiences so give them a call (local call rate) and they will help make sure that the program you choose will be the right one for you. We might be in the UK but we stay especially late to take your call but if you're unlucky enough to have missed us leave a message and we'll call you back!

We take safety, ethics and your enjoyment very seriously. We have a 24 hour emergency helpline and all our projects are ethically run and assessed for their community impact. We also run a buddy system so that if you're a solo traveller, we can put you in touch with others travelling at the same time.

What do we do that's different from what you get in the US?
We've been going on gap years for decades. The choice, flexibility and variety of experiences is really what differentiates REAL Gap from internships, the Peace Corps programs or 'Learn and Serve'.... and that's why we're getting more and more international travelers choosing us every year.

If you want to volunteer, go ahead! Don't forget... you can mix it in with a little bit of kite surfing tuition or Spanish lessons. If you want to explore, you can and you can tack on a 2-week trip to the beach to relax after your excursion. If you want to travel independently for 6 months and then pick up one of our programs along the way, well you can do that too...

Our programs are designed to help you make the most of your 'time out'. Rather than thinking about your gap experience as a vacation from your formal education, look at it this way... you will be taking ownership of your life, in a completely different culture, perhaps for the first time and it's an empowering learning experience, it's much more a part of your education, rather than a break from it.

Many of our travelers set off with an outline of what they want to do, but 'stay loose' with their plans so that if a great chance comes their way in Africa, they can take it.
