Gateway Argentina created its Legal Spanish Program based on the advice and requests of practicing lawyers and law students. Our mission is to provide a well rounded academic program that enhances legal Spanish skills while introducing participants to law in Argentina. Programs are customized for the individual or group based on their needs, interests and goals while studying in Buenos Aires. Each program is designed for students who have an intermediate to advance level of Spanish. These programs will focus specifically on vocabulary, academic literature and current events in the field of Law as it is in Argentina, Latin America and abroad. For students who need to combine these classes with a grammatical and practical approach to Spanish we recommend a month of our Intensive Spanish Classes before beginning your specialize course, this will ensure that you get the most out of your class time. Legal Spanish Program includes: - Twenty hours per week of contact time - Classes taught by a professor with a background in Law - Language partner (student or professional studying or working in Law in Buenos Aires) - Customized volunteer placements or internships (if requested) - Accommodation - All Gateway Argentina participant benefits and support services Why Study Legal Spanish? To apply, submit the online registration form by clicking on the "Apply for a Program Now" button. Once we receive this information we will request a copy of your resume and a statement of purpose in order to customize your program to your interests. We will put the program together for you. If you're happy- we'll see you in Buenos Aires. If not, we'll tweak it until it works for you. When Can I Begin My Program? Programs can start any Monday. The typical duration of a program is 2-3 months; however length of time can be customized to fit your schedule. How Far in Advance should I Apply? Since each program is customize to the participants needs, interests and goals, this process can take from two to six weeks. Please plan accordingly when applying, and respond to all emails from Gateway Argentina representatives in a timely manner to ensure a quick process. We work together with local organizations to create programs that offer the best of Buenos Aires. Other benefits of our comprehensive immersion programs include; Airport Pickup: Upon arrival at Ezeiza International airport, your pickup coordination will already be arranged. After claiming your luggage and proceeding through customs and exiting the airport a driver pre-arranged by Gateway Argentina will bring you to your accommodations. Once you arrive you will be greeted by your program coordinator. City and Program Orientation: Our city and program orientation happens at the beginning of each new session. All new program members are required to attend this orientation. At the orientation you will receive: - City maps and guidebooks - Calendar of social and cultural events in Buenos Aires - Calendar of program events - Contact details of your language partner Cell Phone: We offer to all of our participants a local cell phone for the duration of your program. This service requires a deposit of $60 US dollars. We highly recommend the use of this service. A cell phone will keep you in touch with other program participants, local friends, staff members and people who want to contact you from home. Language Partner: Our language partner program connects you to local Argentine students studying English. Upon receiving your program confirmation we will locate a language partner with similar interests. The language partner will be a native speaker that can help you practice your Spanish; as well they can introduce you to aspects of the city that only the locals know. This is a fantastic opportunity to create a lasting bilingual friendship. Conversation Club: Our conversation club is an opportunity to engage in conversations based on important topics in Buenos Aires and Argentina while practicing Spanish and learning new vocabulary. The club meets at local pubs or cafes and discusses topics in an informal and open environment. Some conversation clubs are coordinated to be follow-up discussions of Lecturas Culturales events. Each club is lead by a specialist on the topic, some topics include: - The Economic Crash of 2002 - Evita: More than a Movie - History of the Madres de la Plaza de Mayo - How to Parrilla Why Steak Will Never be the Same - History of Mate - Understanding the Statistics - A Look into the Porteno Psyche Group Activities: Each week we will organize a socio-cultural event around the city. Here are some of the events we have planned. Group activities are optional, but we highly suggest you take advantage of these events. - Tours of Buenos Aires famous barrios - Tour of the catacombs below San Telmo Buenos Aires oldest neighborhood - Polo matches (seasonal) - Visit to the Casa Rosada museum - Tango shows - Museum tours - Parrillas (Argentine style BBQ) - Argentine cooking demonstrations and group dinners - Boating on the delta at Tigre Welcome Packet: During the city and program orientation you will receive your Gateway Argentina welcome packet. Included in the packet is a Guia T (don't leave home without it), city maps and many perks that have been made exclusively for Gateway Argentina members. In County Assistance: Cultural exchanges are a great opportunity to see a different part of the world, explore a new culture and live a new lifestyle. We want to help you make the most of your time in Buenos Aries. We offer to all participants in-country assistance to help you. We will be available for support at all times throughout the duration of your program for any question.
