Description: Langston Language offers Chinese study programs in China throughout the year that meet the requirements of Mandarin learners at any level. Whether you are joining us for a summer intensive program, attending one of our 11-week academic term courses, enjoying a one-on-one class designed specifically for you, or working together with us in our paid internship program you will find that Langston offers the perfect opportunity to be immersed in the Chinese language and culture.

Unlike most schools in China, we focus on teaching you how to use the Chinese language rather than what the language is. To reach this goal we use curriculum that was designed specifically to teach westerners useful and usable spoken Chinese. We do this in an environment where you are forced to use Mandarin both inside and outside of the school - we are based in Shenyang, a large, historic city where standard Mandarin Chinese is the local dialect spoken on the street. Langston features small class sizes, low prices, and top-notch teachers. In addition, we supplement our class time with cultural activities and field trips to give you time to use the language in fun and engaging ways.

All programs include: 20 hours of intensive Mandarin Chinese study a week, a personal study tutor, all textbooks and materials used in classes, an English-Chinese dictionary, a study supplies package, accommodations, free sightseeing and activities, free transportation for both arrival and departure, an orientation guide, Shenyang city guide, city transportation map, local mobile phone, long-distance phone card, and your own name card (a must in China!).

Unique Class Design - Langston strives to teach Mandarin for use in real life situations. To achieve this goal we offer a wider variety of class types than the average language school. On a typical day in Langston you will spend two to three hours (depending on your level) attending a core-text class which includes speaking, listening, grammar, reading, and writing components. In addition, every day you will have the opportunity to attend several one-hour classes designed to take you deeper into China's daily life and culture. Some of the classes include TV show and movie classes, newspaper classes that cover domestic and international events in China's news media, classes that delve into the contemporary music scene in China, cuisine classes that teach you how to decipher what to order off the varied menus of the different schools of Chinese cooking, and activities that get you out experiencing the vibrant city life of Shenyang.

Small Class Sizes - Classes you attend will have a maximum of four students for core-text classes and a maximum of eight students for non core-text classes. With small class sizes our teachers are able to offer differentiated instruction, fitting the materials to each and every student individually instead of "teaching to the middle".

Specialized Curriculum - All of our core classes use curriculum that was designed specifically for westerners, with a focus on introducing practical vocabulary that you can use immediately in your daily life in China. Depending on your level you will study "Chinese Made Easier" or "the New Practical Chinese Reader", and in some cases a combination of the two.

Exciting Cultural Activities - At Langston we believe that language is a tool for use in everyday life, for learning, and for exploring. This core value leads us to give you many opportunities to use your newly acquired language skills in a variety of activities designed for learning about and exploring China. As a student studying Chinese at Langston you will have the chance to join in our free cultural activities and local tours every week. You can try your hand at ancient Chinese calligraphy, practice wushu with a kung-fu master, visit local historical sites, and experience the earthy charm of the Manchurian countryside surrounding Shenyang.
