Cultural Immersion Programs in India

  India
  Nepal

Term: Fall, Summer, Winter
Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Dates: September 14, 2010 and January 14, 2010

Description: Himalayan Gap is a gap-year and summer program that has been started by two gap year students (Harvard '13) who, in their search for a complete cultural immersion program in India, could not find anything and therefore decided to form one of their own. It is the first program that has been developed by the students for the students.
Himalayan Gap offers a 10-week composite program that includes Hindi language lessons, yoga instruction, Indian classical music lessons, volunteering opportunities, Indian art and pottery lessons among other activities. At the end of the 10-week period, students can choose to embark upon a 3-week trek to the base-camp of Mt. Everest. The summer program is 4 weeks long with a 2 week trek starting June 2010.
This is the least expensive program available because the founders are students themselves. And your experience is not outsourced to a tour company in India. The directors of the program will be with you each day of your stay.
Himalayan Gap also offers specialized personal placements for individual students.
