Highlights:
Our school is located in Indonesia: Indonesia, located in South East Asia, is the world's largest archipelago, consisting of some seventeen thousand islands which stretch across five thousand miles. The main territories are Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo) Sulawesi, Lombok, Bali, Flores and Irian Jaya. The population of Indonesia exceeds 200 million, comprising over 300 ethnic groups. Before the 13th century, the area now known as Indonesia was the seat of Buddhist and Hindu empires (the Buddhist Srivijaya empire in Sumatra and the Hindu Mataram empire in Java). Islam established itself in the 13th century, displacing the Hindu Majapahit dynasty. Hinduism is now largely practiced in Bali. The Portuguese arrived in the 16th century and were followed by the Dutch, who governed the territory as the Dutch East Indies, with the assistance of the Dutch East India Company. Britain also briefly occupied a part of Sumatra in the early 19th century. The European colonial settlements brought Christianity to Indonesia, where it is practised by a significant minority (approximately 15%) of the population. Indonesia proclaimed independence in 1945, but a war of independence ensued until the departure of the Dutch in 1949
