Description:
This program is created for participants who are especially interested in learning the Chinese language and wish to gain a solid foundation of communication skills through interacting with local Chinese people. Participants will participate in a daily, two-hour Mandarin class with quality language learning lessons aimed at teenage learners. At the same time, participants will take part in field-based language exercises such as: purchasing daily goods from marketplace vendors; ordering food in restaurants; interacting with Chinese host families; and community service projects with local non-governmental organisations and schools. Through this we encourage our participants to apply the language skills they attain in a classroom environment to a variety of real-life situations. The program features a variety of elements, including cultural activities, volunteer events and group activities led by our team leaders. We also include a two or three day excursion that is planned and executed solely by our participants. Although team leaders will accompany the group, it is our participants that will take control of their own exclusive adventure. There will therefore be plenty of opportunities for participants to use their Chinese language abilities such as ordering meals, buying tickets, asking for directions and communicating with the locals.
