Highlights: About our Program

The Chinese Language Institute's Immersion Program was designed to guarantee immersion within the language learning environment.

Your Gain
* Complete immersion in Chinese language and culture.
* All students attend one and a half hours per day with one-on-one instructor. Intensive program provides four and a half daily hours of one-on-one instruction.
* Courses include intensive speaking, writing, reading, listening, idiomatic expressions, and more.
* Full enrollment with CLI's affiliate, Guangxi Normal University (includes up to 20 hours per week of Chinese language and culture courses).
* GXNU electives include: listening, reading, spoken and written Chinese courses in the traditional classroom setting, as well as dance lessons, traditional Chinese art, Kung Fu, Tai Ji, Yoga, and many more.
* Option of integrated housing with two Chinese graduate students (all students are provided with a private single bedroom in a three bedroom apartment that includes full western amenities).
* Comprehensive orientation for all international students (crash courses in Chinese language and culture for beginners).
* Every student level from pure beginner to highly advanced is uniquely accommodated to fit individual academic and professional pursuits.
* HSK (official Chinese proficiency test for non-native speakers) preparation courses available.
* Opportunities to teach English part-time at the grade school or university level (great resume builder!).

College Credit

As the Chinese Language Institute is officially affiliated with Guangxi Normal University (GXNU), CLI offers college credit for all coursework completed while in Guilin. Over 50 American universities have accepted GXNU transfer credit, including most recently Lewis and Clark College, Virginia Tech, University of Wisconsin, and Wake Forest

Travel Excursions
3 group excursions (including pre-semester seminar trip) to Longsheng, Yangshuo and Nanning. 3 days and 2 nights will be spent in each of these locations. Day and night tours are provided!

Immersion Program
The core of your learning experience is CLI's Immersion Program, which includes up to 4.5 hours of one-to-one instruction 5 days per week (Monday through Friday) with 4 unique Chinese teachers.

Full Enrollment at Guangxi Normal University
Attend up to 20 hours of courses per week at GXNU! Course selections include listening, reading, spoken and written Chinese courses in the traditional classroom setting, as well as dance lessons, traditional Chinese art, Kung Fu, Tai Ji, Yoga, and many more.

The Chinese Language Institute does not require that its students take courses at GXNU. Language and culture electives are offered purely as a supplement to CLI's Immersion Program.

Housing Accommodations
Total cost of rent and utilities is completely covered by your program tuition. All living accommodations include heating and A/C, hot and cold water, and a high-speed internet connection. Apartment arrangements additionally include a washing machine, refrigerator and a television.

Maid Service
Maid service is provided twice per week.

Pre-Arrival Assistance
The Chinese Language Institute's international staff provides pre-arrival assistance to all its participants. This includes a pre-arrival information packet as well as comprehensive assistance in acquiring a student visa (see our Passport and Visa link for more information).

Information and Assistance in China
CLI's international staff is available 24/7 to provide participants information and assistance while in China.

Travel Arrangement Assistance
CLI's staff can provide all necessary information and assistance pertaining to optional trips throughout China and abroad.

Teaching/Work Experience
CLI's staff has extensive connections throughout Guilin and China that can offer assistance in acquiring teaching and internship opportunities. Teaching/internship terms and conditions are agreed upon between the participant and the host organization.

Chinese Language Institute's Mission Statement: The Chinese Language Institute (CLI) was founded on the principle that there must be constant communication between a language student and his or her teacher, creating a continuous and mutual stream of feedback. For this reason, the core of CLI's Immersion Program is one-on-one intensive Chinese. In addition, we offer a wide range of traditional classroom language training, with classes sizes ranging from 5 to 15 students. We guarantee our students full immersion within the language learning environment. No matter the level of a student's Chinese language ability, CLI's unique educational environment provides the conditions necessary for rapid language development. CLI's Immersion Program integrates all aspects of the language (reading, writing, speaking, grammar, listening, pronunciation, and vocabulary) into a completely unique learning experience. Lessons and topics studied are tested daily in real-life situations to provide constant language growth and validation. The Chinese Language Institute's Immersion Program ensures that students are not only studying Chinese, but actually learning Chinese.
